Managers: Approving Leave for Casual Employees

January 25, 2022 - Defence Stories

Casual employees are not entitled to leave with pay. The only exception is bereavement leave for immediate family as defined in the relevant collective agreement and is subject to the terms found in Part 4 of the Appendix of the Treasury Board Directive on Terms and Conditions of Employment (4.19.2.4), which outlines the rules on leave for casual employees.

However, casual employees are entitled to leave without pay, 5 days or less (LWOP < 5 days). LWOP < 5 days is to be submitted and approved through the following systems:

*Any casuals requesting LWOP must use code 999.

Make sure you review the request carefully before approving it.

For more information or to learn more about requesting leave (accessible only on the National Defence network), contact HR Connect RH online (accessible only on the National Defence network) or by calling 1-833-747-6363 (for Defence Team use only).
