Updates regarding the Defence Team Managers Network (DTMN): Coffee chat resumption and how to become a member!

September 21, 2021 - Defence Stories

Managers play a critical role in our Department and much of our success depends on you. The goal of the Defence Team Manager’s Network (DTMN) (accessible only on the National Defence network) is to create a network of motivated, innovative and curious managers and to provide you with tools to become the leaders of tomorrow. Whether you are a new or experienced manager, the DTMN aims to strengthen the professional community for managers through optional virtual and face-to-face networking events and working groups, like the DTMN Coffee Chats.

Good news – The DTMN Coffee Chats are resuming this fall! It’s been a while since we’ve hosted a Coffee Chat and we have a lot to catch up on. The next sessions will be hosted in late September and early October and will be covering topics such as Performance Management, Labour Relations and ADM(HR-Civ)’s 2021 Summer Directive & Guidance Manager Information Sessions. Stay tuned to receive the Outlook invites so we can come together and speak with senior leaders about the issues and solutions that matter most to you.

Also, to reach as many Defence Team managers as possible, a new membership strategy has been put in place that automatically enrolls all managers into the network. If you do not wish to participate in the DTMN, please send an email to the Defence Team Manager’s Network’s positional mailbox to be removed from the distribution list.

The DTMN is especially critical as managers operate in a new, remote workforce as a result of COVID-19. By participating in the DTMN, you will:

  • Have access to opportunities to collaborate, share and learn about leading practices, and develop solutions regarding local, regional and national departmental and CAF matters
  • Learn about useful HR information and tools to help support employees on your team
  • Expand your network that reaches all managers across the Defence Team
  • Act as a consultative body for senior management and CAF leaders when requested

Managers are the key players that connect senior leadership and employees across the Defence Team. If there are tools that would benefit you or processes that could be improved, we want to help. Please tell us about your challenges, what tools do you need to be successful, and what your aspirations as managers. Please send us your feedback, so we can better support you.
