New Standard on Email Signature Blocks

A new information management standard (IMS) on Email Signature Blocks (ESB) was recently approved by the Assistant Deputy Minister (Information Management) (ADM(IM)) on 12 Feb 2021. The objective of the new IMS 6001-1-4 [PDF - 539KB] (Accessible only on the National Defence network) is to implement standardized ESB in all DND and CAF emails.

Treasury Board (TB) issued a Standard on Email Management (Accessible only on the National Defence network) that requires all DND employees, CAF members and other authorized users apply their standardized ESB to all emails sent, including replies. The DND and the CAF are required to implement the use of standardized ESB that conform to the IMS 6001-1-4 [PDF - 539KB] (Accessible only on the National Defence network), which is aligned with the TB Standard on Email Management. The new IMS makes provisions for the use of ‘Canadian Armed Forces' as an applied title for CAF members and for the use of personal gender pronouns without requesting permission from the Defence CIO.
