Launch of the Beyond 2020 Defence Team Stories featuring the DND/CAF Indigenous Training Curriculum

Beyond 2020 – Defence Team Stories

December 7, 2020 – Defence Stories

Today, ADM(Data, Innovation, Analytics) is launching the Beyond 2020 Defence Team Stories to highlight the efforts of the Defence Team as we strive to become more agile, more inclusive, and better equipped in the work we do serving Canadians.

Beyond 2020 focuses on the adoption of mindsets and behaviours that help nurture innovation. The objective is to foster a Public Service that is more agile, more inclusive, and better equipped to meet the changing expectations and needs of Canadians. The Clerk of the Privy Council recently noted that throughout the challenges of recent months, public servants have been living out the themes of Beyond 2020 in an extraordinary way; mentioning also that increased diversity and inclusion is a top priority across the Public Service.

Does your team have a Beyond 2020 Success Story to share with the Defence Team? If so, we want to hear about it! Send an email to Innovation@forces.gc.ca including a short description of your initiative, project or idea to be part of the series.

Beyond 2020 Feature: Developing an Indigenous Training Curriculum

Building from existing training activities, the Director General Indigenous Affairs (DGIA) is working with organizations across the Defence Team to co-create a departmental Indigenous Training curriculum, ensuring that training is accessible to all and targeted for specific audiences in order to meet diverse training needs. The ultimate objective of a coordinated DND/CAF Indigenous Training Curriculum is to strengthen the Defence Team’s working relationship with Indigenous Peoples through increased awareness and understanding of the different cultures, histories and contemporary issues of Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit and by promoting the development of culturally competent leaders.

For information on the new curriculum and to take part in the Learning Needs Questionnaire, please contact Grace.Paduano@forces.gc.ca.

Looking forward to sharing other great stories in the weeks to come!

Stephen Burt
Beyond 2020 Defence Team Champion
