Veterans’ Week – November 5-11
As we approach Veterans’ Week (Nov 5-11), the National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program (NVWSP) is proud to unveil its CAF speaker’s video series!
In lieu of in-person presentations, the CAF speaker video series was developed to meet the demand for speakers while keeping our CAF members and Canadians engaged at a distance.
These videos pay tribute to all veterans, past and present, who have served their country. The series will help mark important events such as the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the most recent mission: the fight against COVID-19.

It is especially important this Veterans’ Week to take a moment to remember those who have served and continue to serve to keep Canadians and Canada safe.
With so many programs going virtual, here are some additional online resources to check-out:
- Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) offers an array of free, bilingual learning resources available in electronic and print formats to help students remember the importance of honouring Canada’s veterans. Materials can be ordered directly at: Veterans Affairs Canada – Educators.
- The Royal Canadian Mint recently unveiled a new $2 commemorative coin to celebrate the end of the Second World War. For more information log onto www.mint.ca/victory.

- The Royal Canadian Legion offers opportunities for educators to engage youth in honouring and remembering Canada’s Veterans. Download the educator’s Teaching Guide to enrich your curriculum and promote Remembrance. Or Encourage students to honour Canada’s Veterans through creative art and writing in the Legion’s school-aged poster and literary contests.
VAC also has some great examples of ways you can show that #CanadaRemembers:
- Wear a poppy with pride;
- Join the conversation on social media! You can share what remembrance means to you, and include the Veterans’ Week hashtag #CanadaRemembers;
- Tune-in to the Faces of Freedom podcast which tells the stories of those who have served in a variety of battles during the Second World War, or those who remember them;
- You can also explore stories of those who served and sacrificed for our country by reading Faces of Freedom profiles;
- Check out the collection of Veterans’ Week learning resources for youth of all ages and share them with your children and any teachers you know;
- Explore the Veterans’ Affairs Canada Home Learning Corner, where you and your children can learn more about the brave Canadians who served during the Second World War;
- Learn more about those who have served our country through Heroes Remember videos of Veterans sharing their experiences; and
- Check out the searchable online calendar for Veterans’ Week events. Partners, local organizations and individuals will be hosting hundreds of commemorative events across the country during this special week that will be respecting COVID-19 guidelines.
