(Andrew McKelvey) Hello Defence Team Members and welcome back to the 2020 Virtual Celebrating Excellence Awards taking place during National Public Service Week. The forth award of the 2020 Virtual Celebrating Excellence Awards is the DM Award for Excellence.
This award is granted by the Deputy Minister, where warranted, in recognizing exceptional contributions to the furtherance of the DND’s horizontal approach to managing its business, its service lines and its support functions.
I am pleased to present this year’s DM Award for Excellence to Inderjit Nijjar (Inder-jeet Nee-jair), for leadership and commitment in the development and communication of effective Defence advice on fighting terrorism in the Middle East.

Through your exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment, you motivated and drove a civilian/military and whole-of-government team to analyze, develop and communicate effective Defence Policy advice for the Middle East, counter-terrorism and crisis operations. Your efforts resulted in policy to guide Canada’s fight against terrorism in the Middle East, advance the priorities of Canada’s mission at the UN and the renewal of authorities for operations. Your skills as a coach and mentor enabled team results out of all proportion to the individual efforts and you served as a model of integrity for others.
