Temporary Measures for Civilian Defence Team Members: Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP)

May 5, 2020 – Defence Stories

The Government of Canada has updated the temporary changes to the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

These measures are designed to help PSHCP members and eligible dependents access health care benefits while minimizing social interaction with health care professionals as well as supporting the social distancing directive.

In summary, these updated measures include:

Temporary extension of emergency travel benefits.

  • Temporary relaxing of early prescription refills at the professional discretion of the pharmacist and provincial and territorial regulations.
  • Temporary changes to accepted mental health practitioners.
  • Temporary changes to prescription requirements.
  • Coverage for virtual paramedical services.
  • The flexibilities will remain in effect until noncritical business is authorized to resume, or as indicated otherwise.

For information on temporary measures, consult Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) - Temporary measures: Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP). For additional information on the PSHCP, consult: Canada.ca/pension-benefits.
