My name is Major Chuhan. I'm one of the uniformed psychiatrists in the military and my current position is a clinical lead psychiatrist.
I'm really enjoying the clinical interactions with the patients. It really allows me to connect with them on a deeper level.
There's always been some stigma associated with mental health conditions. I think our society has come a long way and we are more accepting of these, but there’s still some stigma that exists. And we're always trying to advocate and raise more awareness about mental health conditions.
[In my experience], those patients who have engaged in the process and trusted the process have gotten better. You emerge out of this process a lot more resilient than you went in, compared to someone who may have not faced the same challenges.
So far, all of us have really enjoyed Petawawa, including my family. I live on The Point [Petawawa Point Park]. So we’re very close to the beach, which is a very surprising aspect of the posting that we really enjoy.
Overall, it's a great professional working environment. There’s a lot of collegial support. We work collectively as a team with the primary care and the community at large.
Those are all fruitful things that I really enjoy engaging in and it gives me energy day-to-day to continue propelling forward.
