Transcript

LGen Kenny: If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Of course it would be flying.

LGen Kenny: Hi, I’m LGen Eric Kenny, the Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Here we go.

Why is celebrating the RCAF Centennial so important?

Because this is your Air Force, it’s an opportunity to highlight our history as well as our future.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Be an active listener and learn.

The RCAF has likely taken you around the world. Which country has been your favourite?

Italy. It was my first deployment; they have great pizza and coffee.

What would you tell someone looking to pursue a career in the Air Force?

The future is very bright. We’re modernizing, this is the time to join the Air Force.

What lesson has been learned in the last 100 years of the RCAF?

Technology changes, but people are our foundation, and it’s our people that really deliver operations every day.

Top Gun or The Aviator?

Of course, Top Gun. Top Gun 2 is just as good.

What is the most rewarding part of being a leader?

Being able to see teams come together to develop, and ultimately, to excel.

What is the vision for the RCAF Centennial?

It’s to commemorate our history, to recognize our people, and to inspire for the future.

If you could have an unlimited supply of anything, what would it be?

That would be more people. People to be able to deliver on RCAF operations.

What is your favourite aircraft to fly?

For me, it's the F-18 (CF-18) Hornet. I flew it for 18 years. But, as the Commander of the Air Force, I love all aircraft.

What are the top three characteristics of a good leader?

For me it's all about trust, so if you have character and competence, you get trust.

What's in store for the RCAF in the next century?

Obviously more technology changes, the space domain is going to grow, but continued excellence to protect Canadians.

What is your favourite memory from your military career?

For me, it was my first deployment which was to Aviano Air Force Base in Italy, to do missions over Bosnia and to Kosovo.

Done!
