(A) I once applied to be an astronaut. I'm still here.
Hi, my name is LCol Andrew Godefroy. I'm Chief of Professional Military Education here at Canadian Army Command and Staff College in Kingston, Ontario, and I'm here for the 60 Seconds challenge.
(Q) “What is professional military education?”
(A) It's part of the soldier's journey in taking education, training, life experiences and operational deployments. Professional and military education looks after the first piece.
(Q) “What is the difference between professional military education and other training?”
(A) Training is usually what we already know. It's what you apply on the field. Professional military education is part of the discovering process so that you can learn those things before you go on and train up.
(Q) “What are words to live by?”
(A) Don't be afraid to make mistakes. As part of that learning program and part of that discovery process, you're going to make mistakes. So don't worry about it.
(Q) “If you don't have to sleep, what would you do with your extra time?”
(A) If I didn't have to sleep, I'd probably just read more. I’ve got a huge library and I was always feel like I never have enough time to read the things that I've already got.
(Q) “What are the expectations of the program?”
(A) We want to make soldiers that are going to be successful in their missions. Right? And that means that you have a well-educated, curious, intellectually smart and really effective soldier. And that's what we really want to get out of the program.
That's the 60 Seconds challenge.
