The Access to Information Act is one way that Canadian citizens, people who live in Canada, and corporations residing in Canada can access federal government records that are not of a personal nature.
The Privacy Act is one way that Canadian citizens or other people present in Canada can access federal government records that contain their personal information.
All employees of the Defence Team should be aware of their obligations laid out in the various Treasury Board policies and directives, which can be found under the "Related links
" on the right sidebar. Particular attention should be paid to the "Principles for Assisting Applicants
" found at Reference 7.3 of the Directive on the Administration of the Access to Information Act.
At this web site, the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces provide information to help the public gain access to government records by using the Access to Information Act or the Privacy Act. This site contains contact information, request forms and other useful information, including a summary of many of the Access to Information Act requests to which the department has responded in the past 2 years. Please note that the summaries reflect the tone and wording used by the applicants, including any assertions of fact or conjecture.
