DND/CAF Science Integrity Policy and Instructions
What is the SIP?
In April 2019, DND/CAF implemented the Science Integrity Policy and Instructions (SIP).
The SIP ensures that government science is accessible to the public & that federal scientists remain free to speak about their work.
Does the SIP apply to me?
The SIP applies to all DND employees and CAF members who design, conduct, communicate, manage, review or make use of defence and security research, science or related activities and/or DND research facilities.
Why is the SIP important?
The SIP:
- Outlines clear expectations regarding the ethical conduct of research
- Ensures that DND/CAF research is trustworthy
- Sets expectations on how science and research are used in evidence-based decision making
What does the SIP do?
The SIP:
- Ensures fidelity in data generation & scientific analysis
- Requires impartiality in drawing conclusions
- Outlines a clear process for instances of breach
