MOSID 00149 - Fire Fighter (FIRE FTR)

General Duties:

FIREFTR perform duties related to providing emergency response services to combat structural, aircraft, ship, special hazard and natural cover fires, driving and operating general and special fire fighting vehicles, using self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), maintaining equipment, providing fire prevention education, using ladders and rescuing personnel. They routinely perform Emergency Medical Response at the EMR level, Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Decontamination duties and Hazardous Material Response. Duties are performed in all environments and climates.

10. Pass the Fire Protection Personnel Physical Fitness standard IAW DAOD 4007-4. X X X X X
11. Lift and carry pumps weighing 12 Kg and backpacks of hoses weighing 25 Kg to fight natural cover fires. X X X X
12. Work in confined, darkened and smoke filled spaces with limited light. X X X X X
13. Force entry using a variety of tools. X X X X X
14. Work from unstable, slippery surfaces including rolling and pitching decks. X X X X
15. Fight Shipboard fires in small compartments while wearing SCBA and personal protective equipment for one hour periods without rest. X X X X
16. Cope with stress of exposure to hazardous material during HAZMAT Emergencies. X X X X X
17. Wear HAZMAT totally encapsulating suits and SCBA for long periods of time during HAZMAT Operations. X X X X
18. Routinely work 15 hour or 24 hr duty periods. X X X X
19. Cope with physical and mental stress of conducting rescue and fire fighting tasks, NBCD/CBRN Operations, Shipboard Flying Operations, or medical emergencies for up to 12 hours during combat/hostile actions. X X X X X
20. Endure emotional stress of conducting triage in mass casualty situations and when handling human remains. X X X X X
21. Locate and retrieve casualties in hazardous situations. X X X X
