What we do
The Office of the National Defence and Canadian Forces Legal Advisor (DND/CF Legal Advisor, for short) provides objective and strategic legal advice and services to the Department of National Defence and to the Canadian Armed Forces in all areas of the law, except military law, military discipline and the military justice system, for which the Judge Advocate General is responsible.
Specific role
The Department of National Defence and Canadian Forces Legal Advisor (DND/CF LA) is a Department of Justice Senior General Counsel and is part of the Public Safety, Defence and Immigration Portfolio. The DND/CF LA leads our staff, which includes civilian lawyers who are also Justice employees, military legal officers assigned from the Judge Advocate General and National Defence administrative support staff.
