Commander Canadian Forces Intelligence Command and Chief of Defence Intelligence

Major-General Abboud joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1994 as an infantry officer and was assigned to the Royal 22e Régiment. Among various leadership positions, he led a combat team in Afghanistan from July 2007 to March 2008, and was appointed Commandant of the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School from July 2014 to July 2016, Commander 2nd Canadian Division Support Group from July 2019 to August 2020, and Commander 2nd Canadian Division and Joint Task Force (East) from July 2023 to June 2024. He has deployed on operations to Haiti, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan, and Jordan.

Major-General Abboud has served in a variety of staff positions within National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, notably as the Chief of Staff to the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff, as the Chief of Staff Operations within Canadian Army Headquarters, as the Chief of Staff Support within Canadian Forces Intelligence Command Headquarters, and as the J5 Plans within Canadian Joint Operations Command Headquarters.

Major-General Abboud holds a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in military art and science, and a master’s degree in public administration. He graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College’s command and general staff course in 2009, and the Canadian Forces College’s National Security Programme in 2019. Major-General Abboud was appointed as Commander Canadian Forces Intelligence Command and Chief of Defence Intelligence on 8 July 2024.
