Intelligence Analysts

You could play a crucial role in supporting Canada’s national security by becoming a Defence Intelligence Analyst.

Intelligence Analysts gather information from multiple sources (diplomatic reports, news wire services, media reports, specialist journals and sensitive intelligence materials) to prepare reports and briefings on international issues significant to Canada. Their work is used not only by DND, but also by government officials in a variety of other departments and agencies.

This type of work requires a strong understanding of international relations, politics and government, economics, religion, history, and military strategy and tactics. Such knowledge is important in order for DND Intelligence Analysts to provide a relevant and comprehensive assessment of security issues. Some of this knowledge is learned through training, as well as post-secondary and/or post-graduate education.

The work you do as an Intelligence Analysts will be used in decision making by top officials on Canada's international security interests and policies. Our Intelligence Analysts are frequently called upon to provide advice, and consult with members of the Canadian intelligence community and allied intelligence agencies such as: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE).

DND Intelligence Analysts typically start in the Economics and Social Science Service (EC) group at a middle management level.
