News release
August 28, 2026 - Ottawa, Ontario - Department of Finance
As the global landscape is marked by rapid changes and uncertainty for economies, businesses, and workers, Canada is focused on what we can control. We are building our strength at home, diversifying our trade partnerships, and building new relationships around the world.
To that end, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, will participate in the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting on August 31-September 1.
The meeting, which will take place in Asheville, North Carolina, will be an opportunity to discuss key issues, including the global economy and economic growth, improvements to the global sovereign debt architecture, and support for financial literacy, ahead of the G20 Leaders' Summit, which will take place in Miami, Florida, on December 14-15.
On the margins of this meeting, Minister Champagne will participate in a G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting.
Also while in Asheville, Minister Champagne will hold bilateral meetings with government leaders to further Canada’s trade diversification efforts, strengthen strategic partnerships, and attract new investment opportunities to Canada.
