Nick Leswick, Deputy Minister

Biographical Notes

Mr. Nick Leswick was announced as the Deputy Minister of the Department of Finance Canada on December 19, 2025, and was appointed to the role in January 2026.

Mr. Leswick was previously the Executive Director of Policy at the Bank of Canada and was the Associate Deputy Minister of Finance between 2021 and 2023. He has also served as the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch of the Department of Finance Canada, with responsibility for economic analysis and forecasting, the fiscal planning framework, and preparation of the federal budget. He has also held senior positions within the International Trade and Finance Branch at Finance Canada, and the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. Mr. Leswick has a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Calgary, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
