Increased reach and focus of GetCyberSafe cyber security public awareness efforts

The current level of cyber hygiene among Canadians remains poor, even though Canadians are amongst the most connected populations in the world. The rapid adoption of new technologies and new deceptive tactics online (e.g. malicious links showing up not just in e-mail but also now in text messages and on social media) has meant that there is a need to reinforce constructive online behaviours. Supporting Canadians in this cultural shift to life online will take time and require constant repetition and reinforcement.

CSE’s GetCyberSafe public awareness efforts will include greater linkages to cyber threats to Canada’s democratic processes. The public awareness campaign would emphasize educating citizens about the type of cyber threat activities that are most likely to be used to interfere in Canada’s democratic processes (e.g. think before clicking on links and attachments, use multi-factor authentication, patch systems regularly).
