What is a privacy impact assessment

  • It is an assessment done to ensure compliance with the Privacy Act.
  • It is a tool for identifying and mitigating privacy risks related to new or modified government programs and activities involving the collection and handling of personal information.
  • It is a means to promote transparency, accountability and public confidence in the safe handling of your personal information.

Privacy protection is especially important at the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) because much of what the Services does deals with personal information.
