Kent Institution

Kent Institution is located in the upper Fraser Valley in close proximity to the townships of Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs in British Columbia. Kent Institution shares Federal Reserve land with the Mountain Institution.

Kent Institution was originally opened in 1979 to replace the BC Penitentiary and it remains the only maximum security facility in the Pacific Region. It was 1 of 2 sister institutions, the other being Edmonton Maximum Security Institution, built to comply with a parliamentary order for the provision of small capacity institutions to house maximum security offenders.

Kent Institution consists of living units organized around a central courtyard.
