The Safe Streets and Communities Act

The Safe Streets and Communities Act, formerly known as Bill C-10, is legislation that affects a number of public safety laws. It impacts how the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) carries out its mandate.

The section of this legislation that impacts the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (CCRA) came into force on June 13, 2012. As of this date, CSC has implemented numerous changes to its operations and policies, as appropriate. Transitions in CSC's operations and policies from the Safe Streets and Communities Act have been made to best serve the needs of staff and others who play a critical role in public safety, including victims and partner or stakeholder groups.
