Why was the policy developed?
In order to bring consistency to protocol for ceremonial events and activity planning across the department, consultations were held with key stakeholders, including the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Ceremonial Commanders and Human Resources, to develop official structure and conduct for authorized activities. This policy provides direction and reference to best practices for ceremony and protocol to ensure they are in accordance to Canadian customs and traditions.
What has changed?
Responsibilities and procedures have been developed for the new CD 266 - Ceremony and Protocol to provide national direction and guidance in all matters of ceremony and protocol within CSC.
How was it developed?
The CSC Chief of Protocol, in consultation with the Strategic Policy Division, the Executive Committee and other internal and external stakeholders, developed this policy.
Who will be affected by the policy?
This policy applies to all CSC employees and to civilian volunteers with the CSC Community Pipes and Drums.

Roles and responsibilities are detailed in the policy documents.
Other impacts?
- A ceremonial component has been implemented within the Correctional Training Program.
- The CSC Standards - Ceremony and Protocol document has also been promulgated in conjunction with this policy.
