As a result of recommendations made by two National Boards of Investigation and pending the promulgation of CD 702 – Aboriginal Offenders, the following changes are effective immediately.

The text underlined below details the changes made to CD 702 – Aboriginal Offenders:

• In order to ensure consistency with direction provided in paragraph 18 of CD 705-5 – Supplementary Assessments, the following paragraph is changed to:
• 16. The Elder/Spiritual Advisor Review will be documented by the Aboriginal Liaison Officer, pursuant to Annex C, within the following timeframes:
• a. intake – 50 days after admission or 40 days from referral and prior to completion of initial security classification and penitentiary placement
• In accordance with legislation, the definition of Aboriginal, found in Annex A, is replaced with:

Aboriginal : as per the Constitution Act, Aboriginal peoples of Canada include the Indians, Inuits and Métis of Canada.

The Interim Policy Bulletin was developed by the Aboriginal Initiative Directorate in consultation with the Strategic Policy Division.

Elders/Spiritual Advisors and Aboriginal Liaison Officers as well as all CSC staff working with Aboriginal Offenders of Canada.
