Why was the policy changed?

Technical amendments were made to clarify requirements for recording firearms being removed from an armory, and procedures for disposal of firearms.

What has changed?

  • The form Firearms Issue and Control Register (CSC/SCC 0767) was added under the Firearms section in paragraph 14, for staff’s use when removing a firearm from an armoury or sub armoury.
  • Clarity was brought to the Ammunition Standards section in paragraph 16 as to when ammunition is tested by the RCMP.
  • The disposal of firearms was modified under the Disposal of Surplus Equipment section in paragraph 19 and a tool was developed for the Process for the Disposal of Firearms.

How was it developed?

The policy change was developed by the Security Branch in collaboration with Strategic Policy.

Accountabilities?

Positions responsible for purchase, evaluation care and control and use of security equipment.

Accountability at various levels of management as well as for the Correctional Officers and Security Maintenance Officers.

Who will be affected by the policy?

All CSC management and all staff responsible for purchase, evaluation, care and control and the use of security equipment.
