Policy bulletin 591

Number: 591
In Effect: 2018-01-22

Why was the policy changed?

As a result of a Board of Investigation, and in conjunction with the recently promulgated CD 843 – Interventions to Preserve Life and Prevent Serious Bodily Harm, this policy was modified to clarify instances where the Immediate Needs Checklist – Suicide Risk is required.

What has changed?

The direction to complete the Immediate Needs Checklist – Suicide Risk within 24 hours of arrival to any CSC institution, was modified to ensure consistency with CD 843. The CD now makes it clear that completion of the checklist is not required for movement between levels of intermediate mental health care within a clustered site or in cases of transfers while continuously on an enhanced observation level.

In addtion to the above changes, the Correctional Operations and Programs Sector reviewed this CD as part of the two year review cycle and no further changes were required.

How was it developed?

This policy was developed by the Reintegration Operations Division in consultation with the Health Services Sector and Strategic Policy.

Who will be affected by the policy?

Staff members responsible for completing the Immediate Needs Checklist – Suicide Risk.

Accountabilities

Roles and Responsibilities are detailed in the policy document.
