• Commissioner’s Directive (CD) 890 – Inmate Owned Canteens

The policy has been updated to include the list of prohibited ingredients for over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements and alternative remedies.

• The Canteen Operations section has been modified to clarify that perishable items and items of a similar nature to those available in the institutional canteen that are purchased through external suppliers are included in the $90 per pay payment period limit on canteen purchases.
• In Annex B – National List of Health and Hygiene Products, cough syrups containing single ingredient dextromethorphan are no longer authorized.
• A new annex entitled List of Prohibited Ingredients for Over the Counter Medications, Dietary Supplements and Alternative Remedies has been added.
• Some minor technical changes have been made throughout the document.

Inmates who purchase over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements and alternative remedies through the institutional canteen or external suppliers.
