Biography

Stephanie Barnes earned a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry from Mount Allison University in 2008 and a Master’s in Inorganic Chemistry, specializing in the chemistry of boron with transition metals, from Laval University in 2010. After a postgraduate internship at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) in 2012, she earned a Master in Art Conversation (Paintings) from Queen’s University in 2014. Stephanie then worked and interned as a conservator at various institutions, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, Library and Archives Canada, the National Gallery of Canada and the Smithsonian’s Museum Conservation Institute.

Stephanie joined CCI in 2021 as a conservation scientist and has been working on the analysis of a wide variety of museum and cultural heritage objects. Her research interests include the materials of Canadian artists and non-invasive infrared spectroscopy for on-site analysis.
