Monique Benoit

Monique Benoit holds a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Regina and a Master of Art Conservation (Artifacts) from Queen’s University. Before completing her master’s degree, Monique worked for five years in the conservation laboratory at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. During this time, she gained valuable hands-on experience in both objects conservation and preventive conservation, as well as an understanding of the importance of inclusive and collaborative collections care practices.

As part of her graduate studies, Monique established a strong foundation in metals conservation by earning a scholarship to the Metals Conservation Summer Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, followed by a postgraduate internship in metals conservation at the Museum of Art and History in Geneva, Switzerland.

After returning to Canada, she spent two years at the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan while also maintaining a private conservation practice. She then joined the Centre de Conservation du Québec (CCQ), where she worked as a metals conservator for seven years. At the CCQ, she developed an expertise in the conservation of outdoor metal sculptures, modern metals and public art.

In 2016, Monique joined the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) as a metals conservator, where she developed sustainable approaches for the conservation treatment of metals, facilitated and created numerous CCI workshops and webinars, and contributed to several publications. After taking on many acting manager roles across different divisions, Monique became the manager of the Treatment and Collection Care – Objects, Paper, and Archaeology Division in 2023.
