Biography
Gyllian Porteous has a Master of Art Conservation (Artifacts) from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts and Science (Hons) in Chemistry and Classical Studies from the University of Windsor. She completed internships at the Institute for Aegean Prehistory, the Caere Excavation Project, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology, the Athenian Agora Excavations and the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI). Prior to joining CCI in 2022, Gyllian worked for four years as a conservator for the Warren Lasch Conservation Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Gyllian’s ongoing research interests include chelation treatments for iron-contaminated archaeological organic artifacts and sustainable treatment approaches for waterlogged wood.
