Transcript

Transcript of Flag folding by a party of two people

Video length: 2:33 minutes

This is a demonstration of the procedure to fold the National flag of Canada, performed by a party of 2 people.

Preparation

  • Two people hold the flag securely by its four corners, extending it out at approximately waist height. The flag must never touch the ground.
  • The top of the flag must always be on the left for person 1 and on the right for person 2.

Step 1

  • Both people bring their corners together to fold the flag in half. Keeping a firm hold on its edges, they rotate the flag by a quarter turn to the left for person 1 and to the right for person 2. The flag is now horizontal.

Step 2

  • Once again, both people bring their corners together to fold the flag in half. They then rotate the flag by 180 degrees to the left for person 1 and to the right for person 2. The flag is now vertical.

Step 3

  • Person 2 slides the right hand along the flag’s top crease, all the way to its center.
  • Keeping the fold in the flag’s center with the right hand, person 2 takes a step with the left foot, folding the flag in half towards person 1.
  • Person 1 grasps the corners of both ends of the flag, now brought together.

Step 4

  • Person 2, while keeping the flag taut, slides the left hand to the center of the flag.
  • Person 2 firmly pinches the center of the flag and then folds the flag towards person 1.
  • Again, person 1 grasps the corners of both ends of the flag, brought together once more.
  • Both people rotate the flag by a quarter turn to the right for person 1 and to the left for person 2. The flag is now horizontal.

Step 5

  • Person 2 releases the two corners, letting the flag drop. Person 2 then firmly pinches the center of the flag.
  • Person 1 releases the flag and grasps the middle of the flag.
  • Person 2 performs a final fold under and grasps the flag.
  • Person 1 releases and regrasps the flag with both hands.
  • If the flag was removed from a flagpole, the rope should be neatly tucked into the folds of the flag.
  • This is what the flag should look like, once folded.
