Personnages

This sculpture stands on the lawn of the Riverside Plaza of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, in Gatineau.

Created by Montréal sculptor Louis Archambault, who died in 2003, Personnages consists of abstracted “people” made of steel, painted white. The piece was originally commissioned for the sculpture court of the Canada pavilion at Expo 67, in Montréal.

An innovative artist, Archambault redefined sculpture by moving it from the religious and commemorative themes of the past to abstraction and modernity. He also influenced many young artists while teaching at the École du meuble and the École des beaux-arts, in Montréal. Archambault is widely praised for his contribution to modern Canadian art.
