Water quality
By shedding light on the sources of contamination in the waters of the St. Lawrence, SLAP's work is helping to reduce water pollution and improve water quality. This work is organized around four main themes: non-point-source pollution, sediment management, toxic substances and river inputs.
Protecting the Biodiversity
The primary threats to biodiversity arise from the transformation of ecosystems through woodland fragmentation and wetland destruction, the spread of invasive exotic species, and climate change. The resulting damage typically occurs in the form of habitat loss, degradation of ecosystem services, reduced species abundance or changes in species distribution.
Ensuring Sustainable Use
Whether it's sustainable management of fishery resources (living aquatic resources), maintenance and enhancement of public access to the St. Lawrence, sustainable commercial and recreational navigation practices or sufficient water inflows to maintain ecosystems in good condition, the governments of Canada and Quebec are joining forces to ensure sustainable uses of the St. Lawrence.
