Section 1: Institutional GBA Plus capacity

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) is committed to ensuring that gender-based analysis plus (GBA Plus) considerations are integrated into our audit work, so that we can provide elected officials and all Canadians objective information on the government's progress on its equity, diversity, and inclusion priority. This work is supported by a refined audit methodology, initiatives to raise awareness, and a specialist team within the OAG who provides technical advice to audit teams. This team is working to develop training, guidance, and tools to build capacity and ensure that all audit products produced by the OAG consider a GBA Plus lens. Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of who we are and what we do, across the office from both an audit product perspective and an internal operations perspective.s.

Section 2: Gender and diversity impacts, by program

Our audit reports benefit Canadians of all backgrounds. Our direct engagement reports have directly and indirectly examined how the government considers GBA Plus in the design, development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of programs, policies, and initiatives. This includes various identity factors that intersect to make us who we are, such as sex, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, age, and mental or physical disability. In the 2021–22 fiscal year, the OAG published 15 direct engagements, and out of those, 6 included 1 or more recommendations directed at improving outcomes for diverse people of all demographics and backgrounds.

The OAG tracks the performance of selected government departments and agencies in several areas previously audited. This includes the implementation status of selected OAG recommendations and key actions taken by entities in response to our recommendations, including those for gender equity, diversity, and inclusion.
