Any Canadian resident can submit a petition on environmental matters related to sustainable development that falls within the scope of the federal government’s responsibilities.

Once petitioners have received a response to their petitions, they may submit follow-up petitions to address subsequent questions or to inquire about the status of the issues they raised. The Office of the Auditor General of Canada cannot directly act to address issues raised in petitions.
Copies of full petitions and related responses are available on request. We have provided a summary for petitions received in the last 7 years. Summaries are not available for older petitions, but titles are available if you want to request a copy. Please note that petitions are subject to a retention period of 15 years. Petitions will be provided in the language that they were originally written in.
