Bringing Acadie to Life Through Innovation
For decades, Le Pays de la Sagouine has been a cornerstone of Acadian culture and tourism in New Brunswick, welcoming nearly 100,000 visitors annually to experience theatre, music, live entertainment and authentic Acadian storytelling in Bouctouche.
In 2023, the organization expanded its offering with Akadi Lumina, an immersive nighttime experience that uses light, sound, and technology to bring Acadian stories to life in a new and engaging way. The attraction has helped attract new audiences, encourage longer visitor stays, and introduce more people to the richness of Acadian culture.
With support from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Le Pays de la Sagouine has been able to invest in infrastructure improvements, sustainability initiatives and enhanced visitor experiences that support its long-term growth and competitiveness.
"ACOA's support allows us to think further ahead. It helps us invest in our infrastructure, advance greener initiatives, improve the overall visitor experience, and continue developing our tourism offering. Said Monique Poirier, Executive Director and Artistic Director, Le Pays de la Sagouine: “These investments are helping us build a stronger, more innovative and more sustainable Le Pays de la Sagouine for future generations."
Visitors frequently express surprise at the quality and scale of the experience, with many inspired to learn more about Acadie and return with family and friends. Looking ahead, Le Pays de la Sagouine plans to continue evolving through new experiences, ongoing enhancements to Akadi Lumina and innovative ways to share Acadian stories while remaining deeply rooted in its cultural heritage.
ACOA's investment is helping strengthen one of Atlantic Canada's most distinctive cultural tourism destinations, supporting economic growth while showcasing Acadian culture to new audiences from across Canada and beyond.
