Aide-Memoire - Categories and Orders of Dress

	CATEGORY	ORDER	OCCASSIONS WHEN WORN
MESS DRESS	(Mess Standard)	No. 2	Formal evening functions (after 18:00) such as: mess dinners; other formal mess functions; and service and civilian occasions where formal attire would be deemed appropriate, for example, formal receptions, dinners and weddings which occur in the evening.
	(Mess White)	No. 2A	As for No. 2 Order during hot weather, or as ordered.
	(Mess Service)	No. 2B	As for No. 2 Order, or as ordered.
SERVICE DRESS	(Duty)	No. 3	Daily duty and travel dress, suitable for all occasions, including: divisions, routine parades and inspections; public appearances; off-duty wear; appropriate military social occasions; and other occasions as ordered.
	(Long-Sleeved Shirt)	No. 3A	Indoors, when an occasion allows the removal of jackets for a more casual work appearance. May be worn: aboard military vehicles, ships and aircraft; within the confines of DND property, including military buildings, or those areas of public buildings occupied by the military; and with headdress when moving between adjacent buildings within the confines of DND property.
	(Short-Sleeved Shirt)	No. 3B	Worn in lieu of No. 3 Order on more casual occasions.
	(Sweater)	No. 3C	Worn in lieu of No. 3 Order.
	(Tropical)	No. 3D	Duty and off-duty activities in hot climates or tropical areas in lieu of No. 3 Order. Worn in common by all environments.
	(Base)	No. 3E	Daily work dress worn during routine activities to prevent undue soiling of service dress trousers/slacks and shirts. Authorized for general wear in public without restriction.
Operational Dress			Worn during operations, operational training, or as ordered. For army members, see also No. 3E order.
Occupational Dress			Worn by members of authorized occupations when engaged in specified occupation activity.

Notes Obsolete Nos. 2E and 2F are not illustrated. Army and Air Force No. 2A jackets are all environment No. 2E Jackets are identical except shoulder boards are worn on both versions of No. 2A.

Orders of Dress: Service for Navey, Army and Air Force

Notes No. 1 is as for No. 3 duty servicedress with orders, decorations, medals and accoutrements. No. 1A is as for No. 1, without accoutrements. Nos. 1B and 1C are optional orders and may be worn in lieu of Nos. 1 and 1A (see chapter 2, Annex A). Navy 1C and 1D include the optional high-collar white jacket for summer/tropical weary only. Army 1C and 1D is patrol dress (undress - Royal Military College and Militia only - see Chapter 5). Air Force No.1B Full Dress and No. 1C underss, summer white variant may only be worn by members of pipe bands (see chapter 5). Aide-memoire
