5th Canadian Division - Atlantic Canada

Who we are

5th Canadian Division is one of the five major divisions in the Canadian Army and is responsible for operations and activities throughout Atlantic Canada. The Division provides the Canadian Army with unique combat support enablers that can address various military challenges and support both domestic and international operations.

Our Mission

The mission of 5^th Canadian Division is to generate and maintain, at designated states of readiness, combat ready, multi-purpose land forces to meet Canada’s defence objectives, both at home and abroad. Members of 5^th Canadian Division take part in continuous, challenging, individual and collective training to prepare them to achieve this mission.

The 5th Canadian Division is a key part of the Canadian Army, comprising 2 Regular Force Units, 20 Reserve Force Units, and 4 Mixed Reserve/Regular Force Units. It also includes 34 Canadian Ranger Patrols and one Canadian Ranger Headquarters. The Division operates 5 Bases and Garrisons, and one Training Centre. Most personnel are located in the Atlantic provinces and Kingston, Ontario.

The current area strength is approximately 6654 personnel, comprising about:

• 2791 Reserve Force Members,
• 2154 Regular Force Members,
• 1032 Canadian Rangers, and
• 673 Civilian Personnel.
