Privacy Impact Assessment of the Security Screening Portal tool
Description
The Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada (ATSSC) will implement the Security Screening Portal (SSP), a software solution developed and used by Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada, to streamline the security screening process.
The SSP will replace existing tools that the ATSSC uses to manage and transmit security screening information. The portal will allow individuals to complete security screening forms electronically and securely submit required documentation for assessment within the ATSSC and, where applicable, to external partners.
The SSP will improve data management by consolidating information currently held across multiple systems into a centralized platform. It will also enhance the security and integrity of personal information through controlled access and standardized processes.
The ATSSC has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with ISED to provide the SSP as a Software as a Service (SaaS).
Why a privacy impact assessment was completed
The ATSSC conducted a privacy impact assessment (PIA) to assess the privacy risks associated with the collection, use, disclosure and management of personal information through the SSP by its security screening team.
The PIA identifies privacy risks and recommends mitigation measures to ensure that these risks are addressed to an acceptable level.
Additional information
The PIA identified and addressed risks related to:
- accountability
- the use and disclosure of personal information
- retention and disposal practices
- data accuracy
- safeguards
- openness
- the ability to file a complaint in the event of non-compliance
